Pencil & Acrylic on Canvas with Embroidered Signature “Love Always, Josie”

This series of drawings follows the last few years of my most recent relationship as it fell apart. It explores the very un-linear, complex, and ongoing process of detangling ourselves from each other physically, socially, emotionally, mentally, and financially after 7 years together. Drawing forces me to face the feelings that I try to avoid. It makes me reckon with them. Helps me accept them. Helps me see them as beautiful… or at least worth feeling and recording.

HALL WALL

Charcoal on Approx. 12ft x 12ft Unstretched Canvas

This drawing was done on a large unstretched canvas that I hung in a back hallway of the art school that I went to. As I erased and drew new images on top, I photographed each stage of the drawing. The ghosts of the previous drawings are visible in the final drawing and are representative of the fragments of traumatic memory still felt in the present, long after an assault is over…
